Member Spotlight: Marcie Brown!

Mary Baggs interviewing Marcie Brown

What is your ‘go to’ bible verse to get you through the day?

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart always be acceptable unto you, Oh Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

~Palm 19:14

My mother, who is now in Heaven, had a framed quote which I now have in my home. It is attributed to the Quaker missionary, Stephen Grellet. It reads,

“I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.”

Briefly tell us about a recent fun activity* you and or your family participated in and why.

Between COVID and a recent professional position I held for the past 2 years, not much! Travel is becoming easier and I have transitioned to a new role opening up additional personal time. Even still, there have been trips with family and friends. My sons are adults so it takes some planning to coordinate our 3 schedules, but it can be done! Our holiday season was quiet and sweet this year with time spent together. Additionally, I have taken some fun art classes and look forward to attempting mosaics along with a return to repousse and gemology.

Do you have a recipe or take-out meal recommendation you would like to share?

An easy fix after a long day is stir-fry. Publix has bags of frozen brown rice in the frozen veggie aisle. I grab a bag and toss in sauteed fresh veggies and a protein, if desired. Easy! For last minute take-out, Fiore Café has wonderful Italian and Longhorn for steak or chicken. The best, however, is cooking with family and/or friends!

Beginning Monday April 12, Father Frans, on behalf of Grace Church will be hosting weekly Alpha classes. This means you can invite your friends, colleagues, or family members who have questions about God. The following website provides information, a trailer, and registration for those interested in joining the Alpha Group. Visit the following to check it out: www.graceocala.org/alpha

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the basics of the Christian faith. WE have created a space where people from Ocala can come and have conversations which are authentic and unforced. Where anyone can ask tough questions about life and God. We are primarily targeting those who might NOT call themselves Christians. Although the church has provided participants with a link to RSVP, a personal invite is always best. Think about a few contacts to invite.

After having watched Father Frans’s video and read the information on the link you’ll share with participants to register, what you will say to invite/ encourage to these free exploratory online sessions?

Each person and situation is unique. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in how best to approach a person with an invitation. The use of technology can actually be a plus with some individuals who may be wary that a group of people may descend upon them at their home in an effort to ‘convert’ them. Assure them this is not the case yet to come with an inquiring mind to seek answers for questions they may have.
