Bishop Search Committee Discernment Meetings

By Heather Hetzel

There are clergy and lay people tasked with searching for the next bishop of our diocese. This group is appropriately named the Search Committee and I am happy to be a part of it. Right now, we are in the information gathering phase and we want to know: What is your perspective?

Specifically, we are asking these five questions regarding the diocese: 1. What are we good at? 2. Where could we improve? How do we do this? 3. What is our priority for the next 10-20 years? 4. How do we get there?

5. What quality, above all others, do you want our next bishop to possess?

I encourage you to participate in the process. You will be happy to know that there is a very simple way to participate. You do not even need to leave your house! Go online to dcfsearch.org. First, watch the 20-minute video that is linked above, that is meant to teach us what the bible has to say about a bishop’s role. Then answer the five questions below the video. They are the same five questions I listed above. Make sure that you fill out the required contact information at the bottom. It is worth telling you that I have found the folks on the Search Committee to be some of the most dedicated and focused people I’ve ever worked with on a committee. I assure you that the answers to the questions will be considered and prayed over. We are taking everyone’s voice into consideration as we discern who God wishes to be our next bishop.
