Praying The Bible

By Susan Moorehead and Rev. Caroline Osborne

Over the centuries, Christians have used various Bible verses as prayers or in their prayers. In fact, much of the wording of our Book of Common Prayer is drawn directly from the Bible! Now is an opportune time to try this practice in your own prayer life. Below are some of the scriptures verse adapted into statements of faith and confessions that we recommend for speaking out loud throughout the day – kind of like taking medicine several times per day as the doctor ordered.

By His stripes I am healed (our nation is healed) (Isa 53:5)

The Lord is my (our) Healer (Exodus 15:26)

My God has taken this sickness away from my (our) midst (Exodus 23:25)

Bless the Lord who heals all diseases (and viruses) (Psalm 103:3)

I attend to His Word because it is life and health to my flesh (Proverbs 4:20, 22)

I am not afraid or dismayed, because the Lord my God is with me and strengthens and helps me (our world) (Isaiah 41:10)

The Lord says He restores health to me and heals my wounds (Jeremiah 30:!7)

Jesus cast out the spirit with the Word and healed all who were sick. He Himself took this infirmity and bore that sickness (Matthew 8:16-17)

Jesus gave me, as His disciple, power over all devils, to cure diseases, and to heal the sick (Luke 9:1-2)

Jesus told us to heal the sick, so in obedience to Him, and in His name, I believe that I am (our country is) healed, and know that the Kingdom of God has come near to me (Luke10:9)

Jesus healed all of the sick people and those troubles with unclean spirits who were brought to Him. So, I (we) bring myself (ourselves, our nation) to Him and I am healed (Acts 5:16)

God will keep me in perfect peace because my mind is fixed on Him and I trust in Him (Isaiah 26:3)

May His Word be our guard against all forces that seek rob us of our peace and confidence. If God be for us, who can be against us. (Romans 8:31)
